Review: St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan and Gradual Tan Plus Firming 4 in 1

Over the last month I have been slathering myself with lots of different tans in the hope of achieving the perfect glow that I could recommend to you all. Today, with the sun shining in London, I wanted to write about two gradual tan offerings from St Tropez that I have really enjoyed!

First up is the St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan. I used the light/medium version all over my body to give me a bit of colour. The cream feels very luxurious on application as it is rich and applies easily and smoothly. It doesn't have a strong scent, but there is a tiny bit of the 'fake tan' smell as the tan develops, though it is very subtle. This lotion is super moisturising and I loved applying it all over my body after my shower before bed, just like any other moisturiser. In the morning my skin had a nice tan and felt very soft and smooth. It developed a good colour after applying it two days in a row and afterwards every other day to keep the tan in place. This gradual tanner is so easy and pretty much fool proof as I applied it very quickly without much effort and it still gave me a really even tan!
The St Tropez Gradual Tan Plus Firming 4 in 1 Lotion is designed to tan, tone, firm and moisturise your body. It provides a very similar level of tan to the gradual tan above, but the cream has a much lighter texture. A little definitely goes a long way with this lotion so I have been using it in the morning to add a bit more colour to my limbs. The lotion also has a really pleasant scent that masks any fake tan smell so it's perfect for use any time!
I would highly recommend both of these formulations as they feel luxurious while hydrating the skin and achieve an effortless, gradual glow that requires very little maintenance!

Review: Liz Earle Superskin Body Cream

With summer now in full swing I have been trying to spend a little more time on my body skincare routine. I am usually pretty lazy in the winter as I hide behind layers, but despite the fact I reverted to black tights over the last few days as the weather in London has been far from sunny, I want to make sure that my skin is well prepped for all those little shorts, summer dresses and bikinis! As I am not likely to get much sun this summer I will also be fake tanning and want to ensure my skin is in great condition so I can get the most from my tan.
In the last 2 weeks I have been absolutely loving Liz Earle’s Superskin Body Cream*. I tried it a few years ago and am so happy I have rediscovered it as it is absolutely amazing for hydrating your skin. The rich cream glides on smoothly and despite being super moisturising doesn’t feel too thick or sticky. Formulated with 25% plant oils it does tend to leave behind an oily layer on the skin, but it doesn’t feel too heavy and ensures my legs are super smooth even 12 hours after application. I love applying it at night, especially after my shower, as my skin feels amazing in the morning and using it a few nights before I fake tan also guarantees a smoother application and no patchiness!

With East African shea butter, organic rosehip oil, antioxidant cranberry seed oil and pomegranate extract, natural source vitamin E, plus the scent of neroli, this luxurious cream is designed to help more mature or very dry skin look and feel visibly plump and smooth. Personally, I think it is suitable for anyone looking for that extra infusion of moisture and would highly recommend it for all skin types.

Before I write any of my posts I always check reviews on websites to get a general idea of what others purchasing the product thought and to highlight anything I may not have considered. The reviews for the Liz Earle Superskin Body Cream are great, though some people were not enamoured by the scent. I wouldn’t say this is a moisturiser that I would buy for the smell alone, but it is not too strong or overpowering. The results on the skin are well worth it and I always see a scent as a bonus to a good product. Many people love the neroli smell and I am fan!

The Liz Earle Superskin Body Cream retails for £33 for 200ml here.

Review: Clarins Aquatic Treasures Summer Bronzing Compact

Since the first rays of sunshine in 2015 have made London bloom I have started to add a little extra colour to my every day makeup routine. Being naturally super pale I have been having a love affair with the stunning Clarins Aquatic Treasures Summer Bronzing Compact*.
With 4 colour quadrants ranging from light to deep this bronzer is absolutely perfect for this transitional period as I can pick and choose the intensity I need every time I use it! I use the darker shades when I have applied self tanner and stick to the lightest on days when I want to keep it more natural.
While being super pigmented this powder blends beautifully. As it is cool toned and on the matte side it works perfectly for both contouring and bronzing!

The Clarins Aquatic Treasures Summer Bronzing Compact is currently retailing (at 10% off) for £27 here.

OOTD: Rehearsal Dinner

Today's post is a little outfit of the day from my rehearsal dinner. I had about 15 mins to get ready after our church rehearsal so I quickly tonged my hair with the Babyliss conical wand and refreshed my makeup using the Urban Decay Naked palette and a slick of The Body Shop gloss over MAC's Costa Chic lipstick.

I picked up this bright mint gradient/ dip dye maxi dress in the Ted Baker sale and think it works perfectly with my tan by James Harknett.
The secret is out... I have a twin!
Apologies for the deer in headlights expression... but I was unashamedly nervous/ exhausted/ excited/ apprehensive/ happy!

OOTD: Cropped

As I haven't done an OOTD in quite a while (and quite honestly I haven't had the opportunity to dress up in a while either) I thought I would share a few photos from a friend's bday party a few weeks ago. Please be kind!
Laser Cut Crop (with cut out back): Topshop £36, PVC pencil skirt: Topshop (sold out), but similar on Etsy. Booties: Kurt Geiger. Rose gold monogram necklace: Anna Lou.
Hair was styled using my favourite Babyliss Big Hair (£44.99).
I always find it hard to wear neutrals without a tan so I used another of my favourites to give myself a bit of colour - SiennaX Q10 Bronzing Mousse £24.95.

LDN: Skins Gradual Tan

This autumn it's all about the porcelain/ pin up tan and I couldn't be happier. With the distinct lack of English sun this summer I am feeling more than my fair share of pale so I am excited to see that the new tan for this season is a lighter shade of bronzed, which is perfectly achievable, even for us mortals.
The LDN: Skins Gradual Tan lotion in Tone 1 (light) is perfect for those of us just looking for a hint of colour to warm up the complexion. One application gives you a really subtle glow, which can be built upon with subsequent layers to gradually develop a deeper tan should you wish to.
The lotion itself has a light guide colour to help application and it sinks into the skin quickly and easily. The light consistency is easy to blend into the skin leaving behind a fresh scent without the traces of the notorious 'fake tan' smell due to its odourless DHA. The process is further simplified as each lotion comes with a handy velvet touch mitt, which is one of the best I have ever tried. It glides across the skin effortlessly and ensures that you tan is even and streak free. For more tips you can check out the video below, filmed backstage at PPQ!

The LDN: Skins Gradual Tanning Lotion is available here from £11.95.

by Terry Serum Terrybly Sun Booster

Being generally pale and turning super freckly as soon as the first rays of sunshine emerge from the clouds I make sure to protect my skin with SPF 50 throughout the summer. However, despite all the associated benefits this does leave me with a very pale face, that contrasts with the rest of my body. I am not usually a fan of using tan on my face, as I found that it can clog pores and look a little uneven, so I was really excited to try something a little different - by Terry's Serum Terrybly Sun Booster.
As an original alternative to chemical self-tanners, By Terry's Serum Terrybly Sun Booster fulfills the three needs of the skin during summer:
  • 3D hydration
  • a progressive tan
  • protection against UV rays.
The exclusive Auto-Radiant technology activates, regulates and ensures the migration of melanin towards the epidermis in just 21 days, so it does not simply stain the skin but actually helps the build up of a natural tan!!

For a progressive tan : Auto-Radiant® System is based on 3 steps:
  • Biotanning, a 100% natural botanic agent, activates the synthesis of melanin.
  • Everglow increases the amount of melanin formed and optimizes its migration towards the epidermis.
  • Photocare regulates the proliferation of melanin and protects the skin against the UV rays.
I have been using it for a few days and so far haven't noticed any difference, but I am excited to see what will happen in 3 weeks! The texture is light, so it sinks in instantly and smells gorgeous. It is also definitely more pleasant to use than a fake tan as it leaves no marks and there is no risk of orange palms. You don't even have to rinse it off!

by Terry Serum Terrybly Sun Booster retails at £65 and can be found on the SpaceNK website here.

Have you tried by Terry's Sun Booster? Do you use tan on your face? Do you have any recommendations? xxx

*Giveaway* St Tropez Spraycation

As someone who is naturally very pale and burns all too easily in the sun I am a big advocate for self tanning. It's faster, safer and often leads to better results with no strap marks or peeling involved. St Tropez is a brand that I have always relied on as I know that their products will deliver a beautftiful, deep tan so I am really excited to be able to introduce you to their latest venture and giveaway 10 of their amazing Dark Sprays or Lotions (read on to find out how)!

Since there is so much happening in the UK this Summer it has been revealed that over half of us will be shelving our passports and joining in on all the local fun instead. However, this does not mean that you can't return from your vacation looking beautifully bronzed, or show off your skin on Brighton beach instead of Bermuda. St Tropez will be tanning the nation - touring across the country with their first even Spraycation! The tour kicks off in London at Westfield W12 on the 15th June, then heads northwards to Bullring Birmingham for the 22nd and 23rd June, Trafford Centre in Manchester on the 28th and 29th June, Glasgow Braehead 6th and 7th July with the final stop in Dublin Pavilions on the 13th and 14th July.

St. Tropez will also be running an online competition asking you to send in a 'virtual postcard' telling them where your ideal Spraycation would be across the UK and why. One lucky winner, plus their friends, will see their idea become a reality as St. Tropez brings its luxury Spraycation experience worth over £8k to the winner and their friends wherever they want it in the UK. You can enter the competition here.

I will be checking out the Spraycation out for myself on Friday and absolutely can't wait to get some colour. Fingers crossed I come out looking like the beautiful Millie Mackintosh, the new ambassador for St Tropez...
If you are not able to pop along to the Spraycation itself you can still achieve a golden glow at home. St Tropez are kindly giving 10 of my UK readers the chance to win a Dark Spray/ Lotion (worth £26). All you have to do to enter is follow this blog and leave a comment below with your e-mail address!
Good luck my lovelies and do let me know if you are planning to take part on the Spraycation. Happy bronzing! xxx

Glowing Summer Skin Tips

Even though the weather has been trying to hide it from us it is in fact Summer. With bikinis and short shorts in mind I have put together a list of my favourite products to get your skin Summer ready - healthy, beautiful, smooth and glowing!

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! It's time to slather on the creams and make sure your skin is well hydrated, plump and smooth. Recently I have been indulging in Kiehl's Creme de Corps Soy Milk and Honey Whipped Body Butter* (£36 here).
With shea butter, beta carotene and jojoba oil this wonderfully luxurious moisturiser works wonders for sprucing up pasty legs that have been hidden under opaque tights for months. It is rich enough to hydrate deep down, yet light enough to sink in quickly, not leaving behind any greasy residue. Creme de Corps is a cult product and I think this whipped version is a fabulous addition to the range.

Exfoliate! Other than a good old fashioned pair of exfoliating gloves (I have these babies in pink £2.66) my all time favourite scrub is Soap and Glory's Breakfast Scrub (£9.50 here). This oat, shea butter and sugar body smoother has a rough texture that works hard to remove dead skin cells and reveal the fresh, glowing skin underneath. It also smells absolutely delicious!!
Hair Removal. Now this is the part I am definitely not a fan of. Other than trying out the TRIA permanent hair removal laser system (video review coming soon) I have recently been relying on shaving. Since I have extremely sensitive skin I have had plenty of bad experiences with shaving in the past. Luckily, I was recently set the new Venus ProSkin* to trial and it has worked perfectly - no lumps, bumps or razor burn. The Venus ProSkin is designed to help protect delicate skin with its MoistureRich shave gel bars, which contain  a triple blend of body butters for a comfortable shave. The ProSkin sensitive has 5 blades for a close shave that puts less pressure on the skin, hence less irritation

Cleanse. As well as traditional shaving creams, such as the Satin Care pictured above I have also found that my favourite shower oil can be used during shaving. I was hesitant to try it at first, but it really does make your razor glide like a dream. So for a gentle and moisturising shower I highly recommend the amazing L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil (£16.50 here).
Glow - Just because the weather isn't co-operating doesn't mean we don't want our skin to have some colour. I have recently been trying out the Sienna X professional tanning range and I absolutely love it. My favourite product is the Gradual Glowing Self Tan* (£15.95 here). This tan infused moisturiser smells absolutely delicious and is super easy to apply - no tanning mitt needed. On day one it gives you just a little hint of colour, day two adds a little more glow and day three will leave you with a gorgeous, natural looking deep tan. I usually apply it before bed on two consecutive evenings and reapply every other day to maintain the colour.
The Sienna X range also features a polishing body scrub and body wash to prepare the skin, a darker glowing self tan, instant bronzing gel and express tanning mist to add colour and even a post tan radiance body balm and shimmer spray to make your skin glow! All the products smell amazing and give great results at an affordable price.
Cool. If you are feeling the heat and the last thing you want to do is slather yourself in oily moisturiser why not try a lighter option? The new Body Purees* (from £4.50 here) from The Body Shop are the perfect choice if you want to hydrate and refresh your skin. The lightweight texture cools and soothes parched skin while leaving behind a clean, invigorating scent. TBS also currently have 25% off online purchases with the code NEW25.
Travel. If you are off to seek some foreign Sun or prefer a 'staycation' to take advantage of all the excitement that is going on in England this Summer don't forget to pack some treats for your skin. I love the idea of this Montagne Jeunesse Travel Pamper Pack. This set contains 6 individually packaged treatments for skin, hair, body, feet and face for just £5 (here).

I hope that's all bases covered! Do tell me if I left anything out!

What products do you trust to prep your skin and make sure it stays beautiful and glowing throughout the Summer months? xxx

He-Shi Express Liquid Tan

Over the last few weeks I have been trying out a few different fake tans in an attempt to get that illusive Summer glow that the English sun doesn't permit. As I have mentioned before I am no tanning expert and tend to be rather impatient when it comes to applying tanning products. Unlike other pampering routines I see the whole process as a bit of a chore, so the quicker and easier the better.
Keeping this in mind my favourite so far has been the He-Shi Express Liquid Tan. At first I was a little wary of the 'liquid' nature of the product, but it is actually one of the simplest formulas I have ever worked with. You only need a few drops at a time on the tanning mitt and the liquid spreads evenly and easily with minimum effort, especially as you don't have to work it into the skin in the same way as a cream or foam product. It has a pretty strong tint that not only helps to give you instant colour if you are heading out, but also ensures even coverage and no streaking as you can see exactly where you have applied it and how well you have blended. I usually leave mine to develop overnight and have been pleased with its minimal staining, though of course some is always to be expected. I recommend having an old pair of loose fitting pjs reserved especially for those 'fake tan' nights... or as some have recommended a onesie. Though that's a whole other topic...

In addition, being a liquid formulation the He-Shi liquid tan sets on the skin very quickly, which not only cuts down on time spent in that awkward 'drying position'...you all know the one I mean...
but it also helps if you want to build a few layers to deepen the colour. As with most tans it still has the DHA scent that we all know and loathe, but it isn't overly strong, and is only perceptible on the first day after application. Usually my tan lasts about 5 days, and given you exfoliate before application and moisturise regularly while tanned it fades evenly and naturally without any patchiness.

I have worn this tan in various posts already.. fooling you all with my bronzed glow hehe ;)
This is now one of my absolute Summer staples as it's so quick and hassle free to apply and works almost instantly. It was sent to me for review purposes, but I will most definitely be repurchasing when the time comes, though so far I have used very little as a few drops really do go a long way!

He-Shi Express Liquid Tan is £19 and can be found here.

Make Believe with a Little White Lie

With the UK sunshine being as fickle as ever a girl needs a tan she can safely rely on - and no I don't mean a sunbed! Over the past few weeks I have been trying out a number of self tanning products from the Make Believe range and their little sister Little White Lie. Make Believe is a luxury, indulgent tanning range that is designed not only to give you a beautiful, natural glow, but also to care for your skin with it's blend of rainforest oils and anti-oxidants.
While speaking to the creators of MB at a recent event I raised a few concerns I had relating to self tan - mainly the smell, application and the colour results. They assured me that MB was different! Being a brand that focuses on skincare as much as colour the range contains so many moisturising ingredients that application should be effortless - you don't even need to exfoliate (though I did just to be safe).

In addition MB products contain less DHA than other brands, which not only helps with reducing that all too obvious scent, but also makes the tan look more natural, giving everyone an individual colour. After all when you go to the beach with your friends you don't all come back the same colour and MB aims to work with your natural skintone, not against it. I thought this was a fantastic concept. When I apply fake tan I want to look like myself after a holiday, not orange, not a colour that would be completely unachievable for someone of my pallour, and not like everyone else that happens to use the same product as me!

I was really excited to try the products out and I was not disappointed.  One of my favourites is the Make Believe Airbrush Bronzer (200ml - £30). This super fine aerosol spray is easy to apply and dries instantly developing into a lovely tan within 4 hours.
Before applying the tan I prepared my skin with the Little White Lie Exfoliator (£7.50), which was very gentle and easy to rinse off. I then used a mitt to blend the airbrush bronzer into my skin. The mist was very fine, with a pleasant fresh scent, and dried quickly. Overall application was pretty effortless, though I did find that a lot of the product fell at my feet, making them darker than the rest of me (eek!), so I would recommend spraying a little closer to the skin than the recommended 10 inches. With one full top to toe application I used approximately one third of the can, though I felt that quite a lot of the product was left on the floor, as is inevitable with a spray. I left the tan to develop overnight and was very pleased to see that I woke up to a natural, even tan with no staining on the sheets and no horrible smell. Of course it wasn't completely scent free, but it was nowhere near as potent as others I have tried!
A few weeks later I decided to test out Make Believe's little sister range Little White Lie - which is a more affordable range marketed at the younger girl who wants the same indulgent, high quality pamper of a Make Believe product, but at a lower price point. I chose to try the Little White Lie Tanning Mousse with Argan Oil (150ml - £17.50).
The colourless mousse has a pleasant light scent and is easy to apply using a mitt to blend. When using a mousse product I usually prefer one with a colour guide, just to be on the safe side, but I found this one light enough to build two layers, ensuring there were no gaps. The mousse dried quickly and developed overnight (with no staining) to give a light sun kissed glow. I really liked this product, as it looks so natural, but I can imagine tanaholics could be left disappointed by it's subtlety. However, if you are pale like me and want to build a natural tan, this would be perfect to start with as it's foolproof to apply with no streaking and no tell-tale smell.

Gifts for You

In the third and final installment of my gift guide we come to Gifts for You! You have worked hard, you deserve a treat too ;). Plus you can't be sure that your mother/ friend/ other half has read my 'gifts for her' post so they may not get you what you really need... ;).

Xen-Tan Dark Tanning Lotion Trio (Special offer trio - £28.94) - Preparation is key, so when it comes to looking good for that Christmas party you may need a night to yourself. Having recently tried Xen Tan for the first time I am still very much excited about it. I really enjoyed the scent of the lotion, which reminded me of marzipan. Even though the notorious 'fake tan smell' was still noticeable in the morning (I always slather it on before bed), at least the application in my tiny bathroom was pleasant. The body scrub in this trio also works well for a gentle all over exfoliation, but as my winter skin is currently a little dry I used a harsher scrub on some areas, such as the knees and elbows, to achieve a smoother application. The tan itself developed beautifully over night to a natural, albeit deep tan and the mitt provided ensured it was even and streak free.
ELF Party Eyeshadow Palette (£3.50) - With 6 gorgeous colours this palette is perfect for creating a beautiful wintry eye look. As I was kindly sent this for review a few weeks ago I can assure you that the shadows are pigmented and blendable. I especially like the sparkly black to add a little bit of definition and glitter!
Soap & Glory Pink Tote Bag (Originally £60, currently £25!) - When I spotted this bag full of goodies on the Boots website I knew it had to be mine! The re-usable pink bag contains:
  • Clean On Me Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel (500ml)
  • The Righteous Butter Body Butter (300ml)
  • Flake Away Body Scrub (300ml)
  • Girligo Scented Body Moisturising Mist (100ml)
  • Glad Hair Day Ultra-Shine Super-Shampoo (250ml)
  • The Breakfast Scrub Body Smoother (300ml)
  • Hand Food Hydrating Hand Cream (125ml)
  • Scrub Your Nose In It Face Scrub And Mask (125ml)
  • Super Colour Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Gloss in ‘Pink Apricot,’ (7ml)
  • Off Your Face Cleansing Wipes (25 wipes)
  • Giant Super Sudsy Shower Puff
This is probably the best offer of 2010 ladies, so hurry as I'm sure supplies won't last long ;).

Rapid Lash Serum (£39.99) - Want longer lashes come March without breaking the bank? I have already reviewed Rapidlash (read the review here) and this stuff works! The results are not as dramatic as other lash growth serums such as Lilash, but neither is the price. One tube lasts 3-4 months of daily use along the lashline and you will usually start to see results after 4 weeks.
Eyelure Lashes (£4.35) - In the meantime why not stick to false lashes? No party makeup is complete without them and if taken care of they will last you the whole season! My favourites are the Nicola lashes as they are full and wispy, without being too long and spidery, and have a sexy flick on the side, which will elongate and lift any eye shape!
Karen Millen Statement Spotted Dress (On Sale £89.95, down from £180) Why not skip the LBD this year and treat yourself to a statement dress with style? Luckily many stores are having pre-Christmas sales, so you can easily pick up a stunning new dress for that special party at half the price!
Karen Millen Frayed Silk Dress (On Sale for £175, down from £250).
Miss Selfridge Nude Beaded Shift Dress (£150).
ASOS Black One Shoulder Organza Tape Dress (On Sale for £60, down from £85).
French Connection Pretty Penelope Dress (On Sale £110, down from £140).
Bare Escentuals SPF 15 Matte Foundation (£20.40) - Now that you have your dress and tan sorted, all you need is the perfect base to last the night. I have been testing out the latest foundation from Bare Escentuals and have to say that it is fantastic. The new click and lock sifter makes application on the go neat and simple, taking the worry out of mineral makeup. The foundation itself blends into the skin beautifully when used with a little kabuki. It has great coverage, yet looks natural and works hard to absorb excess oil and keep you looking matte and polished. A little goes a long way, so be careful not to apply this too liberally, especially as the SPF15 can create a white cast in some photos.
I hope this three part series has given you some ideas and that you have enough time to treat yourselves this Christmas my lovelies! What will you be purchasing in the last few days in the run up to Christmas? xxx
